Old Fashioned Vanilla Frosting

| 1/2 cup | milk |
| 2 Tbsp | flour |
| 1/4 cup | butter |
| 1/4 cup | shortening |
| 12 cup | granulated sugar |
| 1 tsp | vanilla extract |
| 1/4 cup | chopped walnuts -- if desired |
| 1/4 cup | crushed pineapple -- drained, if desired. |

| cook together until thickened, 1/2 cup milk and 2 tbsp. flour, then cool |
| completely. beat together 1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup shortening and 1/2 cup |
| sugar until well blended, add the cooled flour mixture, 1 tsp. vanilla and |
| beat until smooth (about 10-15 minutes) |
