Old-Fashioned Apple Bread

| yield: 1 loaf pan (9 1/2" x 5 1/2" x 2 1/2") |

| 1/2 cup | butter or margarine |
| 1 cup | brown sugar |
| | 1egg, beaten |
| 2 cup | peeled and diced apples, moistened with lemon juice |
| 1/3 cup | chopped nuts |
| 1/2 cup | chopped raisins or dates |
| 2 cup | flour |
| 2 tsp | baking powder |
| 1 tsp | cinnamon |
| 1/2 tsp | nutmeg |
| 1/2 tsp | salt |
| 1/2 | cupsour milk |
| |
| cream together butter and sugar and add beaten egg, stir in fruit and |
| nuts. sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. place |
| in a loaf pan; let stand for 10 minutes. bake at 350 degrees f until |
| cooked, about 1 hour. serve plain or buttered. |
| cupcakes |
| fill lined muffin tins 3/4 full with batter, bake at 400 degrees f |
| approximately 30 minutes. |
| makes approximately 12 cupcakes. combine 4 tbsp. icing sugar with 1 |
| tbsp. applesauce, brush mixture over cupcakes. |
