old fashioned tea cakes

| bread-like cookies that go with tea time. |

| 1 cup | granulated sugar |
| 1 cup | butter |
| 2 | eggs |
| 1 Tbsp | water |
| 1 tsp | pure vanilla extract |
| 1/8 tsp | salt |
| 1 tsp | baking powder (check date for freshness) |
| 4 cup | flour |

| cream sugar and butter. add eggs, alternating, beating after each addition. add |
| water and vanilla. sift dry ingredients together and mix into creamed mixture. |
| cover and chill 1 hour. preheat oven to 350 degrees. roll out the chilled dough |
| to a thickness of slightly less than 1/4 inch. use a 2-inch biscuit cutter or a |
| glass to make cookies. place on ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 |
| minutes. |
| yield: 6 dozen. |
